Roundtable on Environment,
Development, and Sustainable Peace (EDSP), Johannesburg, South Africa,
August 27, 2002.
At the World Summit for Sustainable Development in South Africa, the
EDSP Initiative hosted a Roundtable which featured discussion of Southern
and Northern initiatives dealing with sustainable resource management,
conflict prevention and peace promotion. Please find below the invitation,

Core Group Workshop on "Environment, Development and
Sustainable Peace: Bridging the Gap between South and North", Punta Leona,
Costa Rica, April 3-6, 2002
The EDSP Initiative's Core Group of distinguished practitioners and scholars
met in San José, Costa Rica from 3 - 6 April 2002 for the 1st Expert Workshop
on "Environment, Development and Sustainable Peace: Bridging the Gap between
South and North". As part of the workshop, the Core Group focussed their
discussions on trans-boundary water co-operation as a tool for confidence
building and achieving sustainable peace. The results of this workshop
are summarised in a consultation document to be further discussed among
various experts and presented at the World Summit on Sustainable Development
in Johannesburg.

Regional workshop on Environment, Development and Conflict
Prevention in Latin America and the Caribbean, San Jose, Costa Rica, April
4, 2002
25 practitioners and scientists working in the area on environment, development
and conflict studies met in San Jose, Costa Rica for a one day workshop
on Environment, Development and Conflict Prevention in Latin America and
the Caribbean. The workshop was part of the environment, development and
sustainable peace initiative and hosted by our project partner Alexander
Lopez from FUNPADEM.
